Rolen Headed to DL

Cincinnati announced today that they are placing 3B Scott Rolen on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained left shoulder.  Rolen had been receiving cortisone injections to help alleviate the pain in recent days, but after his shoulder soreness continued to persist the team was left with no other option but to sideline the veteran for a couple weeks.  The Jasper, Indiana native was batting .217 with two homeruns and 12 RBI's this season before the injury.

Infielder Chris Valaika was promoted from Triple-A Louisville to take his place on the 25-man roster.

The loss of Rolen adds yet another Reds player to the DL because of a shoulder injury.  Here is the complete list of the players currently out of action due to some sort of ailment:
  • P Jose Arredondo- 15-day DL (Shoulder)
  • P Homer Bailey- 15-day DL (Shoulder)
  • P Jared Burton- 60-day DL (Shoulder)
  • P Johnny Cueto- 15-day DL (Shoulder)
  • 3B Juan Francisco- 15-day DL (Calf)
  • OF Fred Lewis- 15-day DL (Oblique)
  • 3B Scott Rolen- 15-day DL (Shoulder)
