Arroyo, Reds Blank Houston 2-0

Bronson Arroyo was in cruise control
during his outing on Wednesday
The Reds (76-80) wrapped up a series win over the Astros (53-102) on Wednesday with a 2-0 victory in the last home game of the season. Although much-maligned for the better part of 2011, Bronson Arroyo turned in a stellar outing for his club in this one.

Here's the good, the bad, the notables and the Hard Hat recipient for the intra-division clash:

The Good:
-Arroyo notched his ninth win of the year after tossing a complete-game, six-hit, shutout -- and needed only 91 pitches (64 strikes) to do so.
-Brandon Phillips smacked three singles to raise his average to .297. He also scored a run.
-Miguel Cairo blasted a solo homer in the bottom of the second -- his 8th of '11.
-The Redlegs turned three double plays defensively.
-The boys in the 'pen got a much-appreciated day off.

The Bad:
-Reigning NL MVP Joey Votto has just one hit in his last five games (17 at-bats) after an 0 for 3 showing at the dish on Wednesday.
-Edgar Renteria has now gone 11 at-bats without a hit (0 for 3 in this game).
-Renteria also committed his 13th error of the season on a routine grounder in the fourth.
-Winning aside, Cincy still only had five hits and scored just two runs in the affair.

Notables:
-Cincinnati wins the season series over Houston 9-6 (6-3 at home).
-By tossing nine innings in the game, Arroyo is still within the realm of possibility of eclipsing 200 or more innings in a season for his seventh straight year. He currently sits at 191.
-Drew Stubbs was scratched from the Reds' original starting lineup.

The Hard Hat:
-The Redlegs Review Hard Hat for this Reds victory goes to the man with the long, golden-locks....Bronson Arroyo.
