Cliff Lee too good to run the bases?

Cliff Lee picked up his 15th win of the season with a 3-0 win over Cincinnati on Wednesday, but that's not what had folks in the Queen City booing him at one point during the game. That reason can be explained when the Cy Young candidate didn't even bother to run out a routine groundball in the top of the fourth:

Jog down to first? No, I'd rather not.

Watch the full play unfold below:

Regarding the play Lee had this to say in the post-game, "I should have run right there. There's no way he's throwing that ball away. But that's not good. I should have run right there. But whatever."

By the way, the 33-year old lefty fell just an out shy of recording his major-league leading sixth complete game shutout of the season -- perhaps justice was served after all?

I had a lot of respect for Lee until I saw that.....He's smart enough to know that when you play the RESPECT the Game..What an a$$

you had respect until then? He got jammed up and it delayed him getting out of the box. Does that mean he should just wave the play off? NO. But Cliff Lee is a gamer and made a mistake, get off your high horse. I'm sure you never made a mistake so everyone should respect you for your lofty virtuousity... idiot

There's mistakes and there's mistakes...Paid 20mil to play a game and Lee forgets one of the basic aspects of the game??? Running the bases...We sure didn't like it when Bonds and McGwire, and Manny didn't run out ground balls. It wasn't a was a lack of respect. What if that outfielder had given on that ball where the dude had a CLEAR shot for an inside the park HR...but stumbled??

20 million dollar pitchers should not be on the base paths period, unless it is the playoffs.

It's the Natl. League. Pitchers gotta run when they hit the ball. Are you and you're buddy here Philly Gomers or what??
