Boxberger gets 1st Save on 1st Day in AFL

Phoenix Desert Dogs Arizona Fall League Replica Cap - MLB.com ShopThe Phoenix Desert Dogs beat the Mesa Solar Sox 12-8 on opening day of the 2011 Arizona Fall League.

C Yasmani Grandal was the only Reds' position player to see the field for the Desert Dogs, starting the game behind the plate. He went 1-3 with a walk and scored a run. Defensively, he was charged with a passed ball.

LHP Donnie Joseph threw 1.2 innings of scoreless relief with one strikeout and one walk to record a hold (1). That's a great start for the reliever who pitched for Carolina all season and finished with a 6.94 ERA.

RHP Brad Boxberger faced four batters and promptly struck out all four batters to nail down the save (1), throwing 14 strikes in 18 total pitches. That's an even better start for the young righty who recorded 11 saves between Carolina and Louisville, with a combined 2.03 ERA.
