Some Reds Links & Notes

The weekend is finally upon us! And to help celebrate this glorious occasion, here are some links and notes for you all to mull over:

* According to Ben Badler of Baseball America, the Reds have inked 16-year old righthander Soid Marquez out of Venezuela. Here's the excerpt on him from the release:
"Marquez, 16, pitched in the IBAF 16U World Championships in August in Mexico, where in 12 2/3 innings he gave up 14 runs (eight earned) with 11 strikeouts and seven walks. Baseball America subscribers can access Marquez's full scouting report from July."

* The team won't likely pursue free agent stud Jose Reyes reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. This coming as result of his huge asking price and also having Zack Cozart ready to take over the reins at shortstop.

* John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer thinks the club is looking for a contract extension for Brandon Phillips in the ballpark of four years/$48 million. Said Phillips on the negotiations, "I believe I have some leverage."

* Some great insight regarding the Reds' offseason conditioning program is delivered in this article written by MLB.com's Mark Sheldon.

* Bob Forsch, a St. Louis Cardinals pitching legend, and pitching coach for the Reds' Rookie League affiliate Billings Mustangs, tragically passed away on Thursday at the age of 61. You can read the full report here.

* Baseball's all-time hit leader and former Red Pete Rose is being sued by a dentist for nearly three thousand dollars in unpaid dental work. Here's the link.
