Reds Claim Indian Off Waivers

The newest member of the Reds

On the same day as finalizing a trade with the Cubs, the Reds made another move as well. The team claimed right-handed pitcher Josh Judy off waivers from the Indians.

Judy was designated for assignment last week to make room on Cleveland's 40-man roster for Aaron Cunningham.

The 25-year old appeared in 12 games for the Tribe last season as a rookie. He posted a rather unimpressive 7.07 ERA in those outings -- which totalled 14 innings pitched.

However, despite his lackluster but yet small major league sample size, Judy has had success pitching in the minors. In five seasons in the Indians farm system the reliever compiled a 26-8 record, 2.81 ERA, 10.4 K/9 rate, and 41 saves. This includes recording 23 saves and a 3.12 ERA in 50 appearances last year with Triple-A Columbus.

The move by the Reds' front office is an obvious attempt to try and replace the recently departed Brad Boxberger as the team's next potential closer. With that said, Judy will definitely need some seasoning before that idea becomes a reality.

With the addition of Judy Cincinnati's 40-man roster now sits at 37.
