Catching up on MINOR Details: Billings

Last but not least (with apologies to the AZL Reds) we have the Rookie League Billings Mustangs. They finished 44-32 for the best record overall in the Pioneer League North, but missed out on the playoffs by just one game, because they did not have the best record in either half of the season. They did take it all the way to the last day though. The big news for Billings is that the Reds extended their working relationship, which was set to end in 2012, with the Mustangs through 2014.

Bucking into 2012 are your Billings Mustangs...

-Here's the full story on the Reds and Mustangs extending their deal.

-The Billings Mustangs won Minor League Baseball's top award, the John H. Johnson President's Award. According to the site, "The President's Award, Minor League Baseball's top accolade, is presented annually to honor the complete baseball franchise -- based on franchise stability; contributions to league stability; contributions to baseball in the community; and promotion of the baseball industry."

-Mustangs' SP Tony Cingrani (4-2, 1.74 ERA) received the MiLBy for Best Starter of the 2011 short season teams.

-Pat Kelly will return to the helm as the manager of the Mustangs in 2012.

-Check out this video recap of 2011 with a big thanks from Homer, the mascot of the mustang.

-Billings starts their season on June 18th, according to their 2012 schedule. Get your Mustangs tickets here if you're in or going to be around Montana.

That ends the catch-up posts for the minors for now. Keep an eye out for MINOR Details to return as soon as the play starts to get under way.
