2012 predictions: Defensive MVP

Today marks day two of our 8-day series featuring predictions for the upcoming season. After taking a stab at the Offensive MVP yesterday, we now glove it up and make our selection for the Reds Defensive MVP of 2012. Here goes nothing:

@RedlegsWriter's pick: Brandon Phillips
-This appears to be another pick that explains itself. Phillips turns tough plays into the routine, and impossible plays into the spectacular. He makes plays on balls that other infielders and fans alike cannot even fathom. With 2012 being his last season under contract (for now), he’s bound to turn in another excellent season at second base. While there’s no doubt, he’s come along way since he came to the Cincinnati from Cleveland, the only question is whether or not this will be his last season in a Reds uniform?

@Redlegs_Review's pick: Brandon Phillips
-This selection was almost as easy as dubbing Votto the team’s Offensive MVP. Who else could you seriously consider giving it to other than the 30-year old second basemen? Phillips has been setting the defensive standard at the position since 2006 for the Reds – racking up three Gold Glove Awards during that span. His durability, range, arm and the knack for making the highlight reel play are second to none. Expect more of the same from the fan-friendly Phillips this year...and perhaps a fourth career Gold Glove.

Honorable mentions go to: Joey Votto, Scott Rolen, Jay Bruce, & Drew Stubbs

And in case you want to look back on a prior post, or just want to look ahead...
