Arroyo, Reds blanked by Padres 5-0

Arroyo had a nice spring debut for the Reds.
The Reds dropped their second straight spring game this afternoon losing 5-0 to a partially familiar cast of characters in the San Diego Padres. Yonder Alonso and Yasmani Grandal who were traded to the Padres for Mat Latos, appeared in the game for San Diego. Jeremy Hermida who was with the Reds last season was also in the lineup Wednesday. The former Reds had the upper hand this time. Now we look at the good, the bad and the notables from what was an ugly loss.

The Good:
-Scott Rolen, Juan Francisco, and Jay Bruce each went 1-2.
-Willie Harris, Zack Cozart, Ryan Ludwick, and Drew Stubbs each reached base via the walk.
-Bronson Arroyo threw three innings, and gave up just one earned run on two hits, and a walk, allowing a home run to Hermida.
-Nick Masset (0.2 IP) and Logan Ondrusek (1.1 IP) both had scoreless outings.

The Bad:
-Rolen, Francisco, and Bruce each went 1-2, accounting for the only three Reds' hits.
-The Reds stranded 12 total runners, with Devin Mesoraco and Brian Esposito responsible for three each.
-Esposito, Denis Phipps, and Donald Lutz each struck out twice.
-Ron Mahay gave up two earned on three hits and a walk in just one inning of work. He gave up a two-run homer in the sixth.

The Notables:
-Arroyo appeared to have his normal velocity back on his fastball, throwing in the 88-89 mph range.
-Masset exited early with some "tenderness" but it's not considered to be serious.
-Stubbs fell victim to his first strikeout of 2012.
-Alonso, Grandal, and Hermida each had a hit for the Friars.
-The Reds are now 2-2-1 in Spring Training. They play the Brewers tomorrow at 3:05 EST.
