How former Reds are faring this spring

A change of scenery has appeared to benefit Volquez so far
As the old adage goes, "once a Red, always a Red." Here's an overview of how some former members of the Reds are faring with their new clubs this spring, in alphabetical order if I may add:

1B Yonder Alonso
Current organization: San Diego Padres
Spring stats: Alonso is hitting .303 (20-66) with 1 HR, 11 RBIs and five doubles. He's drawn two walks against 10 strikeouts. He's currently slated to be the Friars' everyday starter at first base, according to the team's official depth chart.

RHP Brad Boxberger
Current organization: San Diego Padres
Spring stats: The 23-year old appeared in eight games (5.2 IP) while allowing eight earned runs, seven hits and two walks. He managed to save two games and fan nine before being reassigned to the minor league camp on March 26th.

OF Jonny Gomes
Current organization: Oakland Athletics
Spring stats: Gomes batted .214 (6-28) with 2 HR, 3 RBIs and 10 runs in the preseason. He was 1-for-4 with a solo homer in his first regular season start against Seattle on March 29th. He's listed as the A's fifth outfielder, according to the team's official depth chart.

C Yasmani Grandal
Current organization: San Diego Padres
Spring stats: The switch-hitting backstop batted .353 (12-34) with 2 HR, 11 RBIs and five runs scored. He struckout nine times and walked on another five occasions before being cut on March 28th. Grandal is expected to be the everyday starter for Triple-A Tucson to begin the year.

Hernandez leaves the Reds
after 3 years of service
C Ramon Hernandez
Current organization: Colorado Rockies
Spring stats: The 35-year old is hitting .267 (8-30) with, 0 HR, 3 RBIs and one triple. He's yet to draw a walk, but has struckout five times. He's likely to split the catching duties with prospect Wilin Rosario in 2012.

OF Dave Sappelt
Current organization: Chicago Cubs
Spring stats: Sappelt hit .216 (8-37) with 1 HR and 4 RBIs in 18 games before being demoted on March 29th. He'll likely occupy an outfield spot for Triple-A Iowa to begin the season.

RHP Edinson Volquez
Current organization: San Diego Padres
Spring stats: The former 17-game winner has started five games and compiled a 2-0 record with a 3.48 ERA. He's fanned 13 batters while walking another 11 in 20.2 IP. He's slated to be the Padres' no. 3 starter to start the campaign.

LHP Dontrelle Willis
Current organization: Baltimore Orioles
Spring stats: Willis pitched in three games for the Phillies before being cut on March 16th. He surrendered five runs in 2.2 IP. He's pitched in just one game for the O's thus far (1 IP, 2 runs, 1 earned, 3 walks). He's still fighting to earn a spot on their Opening Day roster.

LHP Travis Wood
