The Reds invited 58 players to spring camp with the knowledge that only 25 will comprise the Opening Day roster. Thus, some whittling away of the roster size was inevitable. And that's precisely what took place on Sunday as 16 players received word of their fate.
Here's a list of the players who were cut:
SS Kristopher Negron – Played in 11 games collecting three hits in 18 at bats. He also struckout seven times while walking once. Had a .167 batting average.
1B Neftali Soto – Collected four hits in 18 at-bats spread out over 10 games. Had 1 HR, RBI, and walk. Struckout seven times. Finished with a .222 batting average.
SS Didi Gregorious – Played in 12 games while collecting eight hits over 17 at-bats. Scored two runs and one RBI. K'd five times while maintaining a .294 average.
2B Henry Rodriquez – Collected six hits in 19 at-bats. Scored four runs while knocking in two. Had two walks. He also stole a base. Batted .316
RHP Pedro Villarreal - Pitched 3.0 innings, allowing two hits and one earned run. Allowed one walk. 3.00 ERA
1B Donald Lutz – Had 23 at-bats while playing in four games. Had seven hits, three runs, and two homeruns. He struck out eight times and did not walk. .304 batting average
RHP Kyle Lotzkar – Pitched two innings. Fanned two while walking one. Did not give up a hit. 0.00 ERA
C Tucker Barnhart – Played in six games and received six at-bats. Went hitless with two strikeouts and no walks.
RHP Nick Christiani – Pitched three innings giving up two earned runs. Struckout four while walking one and hitting one. Credited with one loss. 6.00 ERA
RHP Daniel Corcino – Pitched three innings over two games. Allowed five hits and an earned run. Struck out one while not allowing a walk. 3.00 ERA
C Brian Esposito – Seeing seven at-bats over seven games Esposito hit two singles. He struck out two times while not walking. .286 batting average.
RHP Sean Gallager – Was a perfect 2 for 2 in save opportunities while pitching 6.0 innings over three games. He allowed four hits without giving up a run. He struck out two compared to his one base on balls. 0.00 ERA
LHP Donnie Joseph – Allowed two hits and no runs over three innings pitched. He retired four via strikeout while only allowing one walk. 0.00 ERA
RHP Chad Reineke – Over his three games he pitched 5.0 innings allowing three hits and two earned runs. He struggled with control as he hit two batters while walking two more. 3.60 ERA
