Breaking down Votto's contract incentives

The Reds sent shockwaves throughout the baseball community when they extended Joey Votto's contract for an extra ten years, $225MM earlier this month -- keeping the All Star slugger in the Queen City through the conclusion of the 2023 season.

You may have already caught a glimpse of how his yearly salary breaks down per year, but what you may not have have seen are the incentives included his new deal as well. Here they are, according to Lance McCallister of ESPN 1530:

Votto will receive....
* $75,000 for an All Star selection
* $75,000 for a Gold Glove
* $75,000 for a Silver Slugger
* $75,000 for an MVP nod in a LCS
* $100,000 for an MVP honor in a WS
* $500,000 for a regular season MVP
  - $200,000 for 2nd place
    - $150,000 for 3rd place
      - $100,000 for 4th place
         - $50,000 for 5th place

The 28-year old also makes a yearly contribution to the Reds Community Fund based on a percentage of his yearly base salary.
