The Reds wrapped up their slate for the month of April with a 6-5 win over the visting Astros on Sunday. The victory helped even up their overall record to 11-11, a respectable tally considering they started 4-8. And you don't win seven out of ten games without getting some good performances from your players. After careful consideration, we've identified one position player and one pitcher who went above and beyond the call of duty for the last four weeks.
Without further adieu, here are your Redlegs Review Players of the Month for April:
Jay Bruce - The left-handed bopper leads the team in average (.296), slugging (.617), RBIs (17), homers (7), runs scored (14), hits (24), OPS (.954) and total bases (50). He ranks second in the National League in homers and total bases, fourth in slugging and fifth in RBIs.
Honorable Mentions: Joey Votto, Zack Cozart, and Drew Stubbs
Aroldis Chapman - Chapman has yet to allow a run in nine appearances, which spans 12.1 innings pitched. The southpaw boasts a 2-0 record, three holds and a 0.73 WHIP. His 21 strikeouts are tied for the league-lead among relievers. Opposing hitters are hitting just .119 against him.
Honorable Mentions: Johnny Cueto, Logan Ondrusek, Jose Arredondo and Bronson Arroyo
Congrats to all the guys on a fantastic start to the season.
