Reds Win 4-3, Win Series

The Redlegs (7-9) and the Cubbies (4-12) faced off in a Sunday finale in what was the rubber game of a three game set. Dusty and the team had a rough road trip and certainly did not want it to end in a loss to the last place Cubs. Johnny Cueto, most definitely the Reds ace of the staff, was sent to the mound today facing RHP Randy Wells. The guys won a tight one by the final score of 4-3.

Let's take a look at the good, the bad, and the notables from the Sunday afternoon affair:

The Good:
- Dusty's guys most importantly were able to secure a getaway day victory in what was a rough road trip.
- Johnny Cueto had a strong performance giving up two runs (one earned) in 6.1 innings. He struck out a total of seven while walking two.
- Three of the teams relief pitchers combined for a total of 2.2 innings in relief allowing one run while striking out four. Those three relievers were Logan Ondrusek, Aroldis Chapman, and Sean Marshall. Ondrusek and Chapman both picked up a hold while Marshall locked down his third save of the season.
- Joey Votto, Scott Rolen, Drew Stubbs, and Jay Bruce all had one RBI each in the game. Votto added two hits with both hits being of the extra base variety.

The Bad:
- The team today had a total of three errors. That was relatively uncharacteristic from the guys as they have been very sound defensively for the most part this season.
- The guys went a combined 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position with 13 left on base.
- Scott Rolen had a tough day going 1-for-5 at the plate with three strikeouts.

The Notables:
- It was a blustery 45 degrees with the wind blowing at 14 MPH. An extremely cold day for baseball for the 35,801 fans in attendance for the finale of the series.
- Up next for the Reds: Off day on Monday. Tuesday they will take on the Giants in the first of three at Great American Ballpark with right hander Mat Latos (0-2, 8.22) taking the mound for the Reds.
