Getaway Day Success Continues, Reds win 5-0

Latos was dealin' on Sunday
The Redlegs (14-13) hooked up with the Pittsburgh Pirates (12-16) in what was the final game of a three game set. The Reds were looking to improve to an 8-1 record on getaway days and they did exactly that.

The Reds sent right hander Mat Latos (2-2) to the mound to face righty Charlie Morton (1-3). Latos has obviously struggled through his first couple starts and proved that he is a notoriously slow starter in the month of April. He certainly showed his track record today and had a solid start in the 5-0 victory over the Buccos.

Let's take a look at the good, the bad, and the notables from this afternoon's game.

 The Good:
- Mat Latos pitched one heck of a ballgame today as he went six strong innings allowing only two hits while striking out a career high of eleven batters. Latos also picked up his second win of the season with the solid pitching performance. He struggled in the first inning but settled down after that.
- Drew Stubbs had a huge day at the plate pounding out three hits going 3-for-4 at the plate with a two run home run in the fourth inning that gave the Reds a 4-0 lead. That was Stubbs' third home run of the year.
- Todd Frazier yet again proved to be a solid bat with two hits in four trips to the plate. Frazier hit his first home run of the year in the second inning and added a double later in the game.
- Brandon Phillips and Joey Votto added the other two RBIs.
- The bullpen once again proved to be reliable and continues to prove why it is a strength of this team. JJ Hoover, Aroldis Chapman, and Alfredo Simon combined for three innings of shutout baseball in relief.
- The pitchers in today's ballgame struck out an astonishing 17 batters.
- The Reds improved to 8-1 on getaway days. This team continues to impress with the getaway day victories.

The Bad:
- The team was 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position. The team did come up with some timely RBI when needed.
- Brandon Phillips and Zack Cozart both had a fielding error in the game.
- Brandon Phillips also added an 0-for-4 day at the plate and continues to struggle in the number four hole.

The Notables:
- It was later found out after the game was over that Mat Latos woke up this morning with a stomach bug. Latos said after the game, "I was not feeling good at all this morning. I woke up throwing up. It wasn't pretty." He also added, "I thought I was going to throw up a couple of times." Latos was obviously not feeling well but gutted out six strong innings.
- It was a great day for a baseball game in Pittsburgh with the weather being 77 degrees. A great day for the crowd of 20,042.
- Up next for the Redlegs: The Reds will travel to take on the Brew Crew for the first of a three game set. It will be Bronson Arroyo (1-1, 3.03) facing the struggling Yovani Gallardo (1-3, 5.79).
