Reds tab RHP in first mock draft

The 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft is now under three weeks away -- meaning you'll be seeing a whole bunch of mock drafts and projections until then.

The first notable one comes from ESPN.com's Keith Law. While projecting the MLB Draft is somewhat of an impossible and dubious task, it's still fun to see which players these 'experts' see going where.

Here's who Law predicts Cincy would take at the no. 14 overall pick:

Kyle Zimmer, RHP, San Francisco
Zimmer's hamstring issue has clouded his draft status a bit, and while he throws hard he doesn't have a lot of downward plane on his fastball. The Reds have been linked mostly with college arms so far, with Zimmer heading a group that would include Heaney, Stroman and Stratton.

We'll be keeping an eye out for other mock drafts as the real one gets closer. A team's future often weighs heavily on the success or failure of its draft picks. Let's hope the Reds continue their recent track record of drafting gems.

The club used their first round pick (27th overall) on RHP Robert Stephenson (Alhambra High School/Cal.) in 2011.
