Reds top prospects update: Donnie Joseph can pitch a little

Billy Hamilton has cooled off a bit, but he still has 40 stolen bases and 37 runs in 41 games. Tony Cingrani and Donnie Joseph are throwing the baseball very well. Joseph looks like a guy who could see a little time in Cincinnati later this year, as he is looking nearly unhittable so far. Other than that there's not a whole lot about which to write home. An honorable mention is deserved for Blaze 1B Donald Lutz who isn't currently ranked among the Reds top 15 prospects, but leads them all with 12 home runs and 38 RBI.

Here's this week's top prospects update. To see last week's update go here.

Notes
#3 RHP Robert Stephenson has yet to throw a pitch in an actual game for the Reds organization. He was the Reds' 2011 first-round pick and signed right at the deadline, thus keeping him out of late 2011 action. He's expected to start at the rookie level, which begins play in late June.

Are you kidding me? Later in the season? Donnie is 4-0, 10 saves, 34 SO in 21 innings? You do the math...he should be in Triple A now and be up in Cincy like in late July, early August...not wait till Sept Call-Ups...The guys is nearly unhittable. he control issue from last years seems to have been taken care of. He could be helping them out with the closer issue in Ohio...Oh well, we enjoy watching him here in Pensacola...

He's definitely been lights out. I'm sure he'll be in Louisville before too long, but since he's not on the 40-man and the Reds don't have a pressing need for bullpen help, it's unlikely we'll see him in Cincinnati too early, unless injury necessitates it. Plus I'm sure they're hoping at least one if not both Bray and Masset will be back by the middle of the summer. No doubt, the lefty Joseph will be a great bullpen asset when/if they move Chapman to the rotation in the future.
