Reds win 3-1 as Phillips Knocks in Winning Run in Front of Hometown Crowd

The Cincinnati Reds (18-16) won the first game of the series against the Atlanta Braves (22-14) as Homer Bailey pitched a strong game and Brandon Phillips knocked in a clutch run in the 8th inning. Bailey and the bullpen effectively shut down the Braves bats as the Reds won 3-1.

The Good
-Homer Bailey pitched perhaps his best game of the season, allowing only 1 run over 6.2 innings of work. He looked much more comfortable with Catcher Devin Mesoraco, who appears to be calling better games behind the plate.
- Logan Ondrusek pitched .2 innings and picked up his 3rd win of the season. Ondrusek, along with, teammate Aroldis Chapman still have still not given up ANY runs this season. That's a 0.00 ERA
- After getting the win yesterday, Sean Marshall picked up his 6th save of the season
-Brandon Phillips hit a long double off the wall as he knocked in the game winning run during the 8th inning. He did it in front of friends and family, as he is from Georgia. He joked that he needed to do a couple extra push ups so next time it would be a home run.

The Bad
-It's hard to complain after a win, over a first place team on the road, but we can always nitpick. - Zack Cozart, Todd Frazier, and Devin Mesoraco went a combined 0-12 at the plate and 4 strikeouts. -The team went 2-12 with runners in scoring position.

The Notables
- The St. Louis Cardinals lost to the Chicago Cubs allowing the Reds to move within 1.5 games of first place
-The Reds lean on Johnny Cueto and his perfect record as the Reds hope to sweep the Braves and Tim Hudson tomorrow at 7:10 pm.
- Joey Votto is sending the bat used during his 3 home-run walk-off grand slam game to the Hall of Fame.
