Minor League Players of the Month (May)

Long bus rides without air conditioning, playing in weird cities and small crowds, dealing with strange ballpark promotions -- just a tip of the iceberg in the daily life of a minor league baseball player. The following Reds prospects have overcome those obstacles, however, and put up some outstanding numbers during the month. Their ultimate goal? To eventually thwart the minor league life in favor of living out their dreams as big leaguers. It appears they're well on their way.

Here are the Redlegs Review Minor League Players of the Month for May:
Triple-A Louisville

3B Chris Valaika - Valaika takes the honor thanks in part to a very small candidate pool to choose from. The 26-year old boasted a slash line of .277/.319/.446 with seven XBH, eight RBI and eight runs scored.

Honorable Mentions: C Dioner Navarro

RHP Sean Gallagher - The native Bostonian followed a sub-par April with a much stronger showing in May. In five starts he tallied a 3-1 record and a 3.48 ERA spanning 31 IP. He surrendered 26 hits, walked 15 and fanned 23.

Honorable Mentions: RHP Brett Tomko, RHP Nick Christiani

Double-A Pensacola

OF Josh Fellhauer - The left-handed prospect hit .323 with seven XBH, six RBI, and 10 runs scored. He currently leads the Blue Wahoos in OBP (.412) and ranks second in OPS (.864).

Honorable Mentions: OF Ryan LaMarre, 1B Joel Guzman

LHP Donnie Joseph - The University of Houston alum recorded eight saves, a 2-1 record and a 1.06 ERA in 13 appearances (17 IP). He struckout 25 batters while issuing only three free passes and seven hits. His early season dominance has many around the Reds organization vying for his promotion.

Honorable Mentions: RHP Kyle Lotzkar, LHP Wilkin De La Rosa

Advanced Single-A Bakersfield

OF Bryson Smith - The former Florida Gator raked at an impressive clip of .363/.413/.485 with three homers and a club-leading 20 RBI. He also managed to swipe five bags while plating 17 runs.

Honorable Mentions: SS Billy Hamilton, 1B Donald Lutz, 2B Devin Lohman

LHP Tony Cingrani - The southpaw started six games and recorded a perfect 3-0 mark and an ERA of 1.60. He mowed down 43 hitters via punchouts in 33.2 IP while allowing only eight base on balls. His current ERA for 2012 stands at a tidy 1.11 while boasting a .189 BAA.

Honorable Mentions: RHP Chad Rogers, RHP Brian Pearl, RHP Pat Doyle

Single-A Dayton

2B Ryan Wright - The University of Louisville product slugged his way to a .349 average, .874 OPS and a team-leading 18 RBI. He smacked 10 doubles, scored 13 runs and was 6/7 in the stolen base department. He currently leads the Dragons in nearly every major offensive category.

Honorable Mentions: OF Steve Selsky, OF Kyle Waldrop

RHP Jacob Johnson - Johnson garners the nod despite going winless (0-1) in three starts. However, he posted a 2.40 ERA (15 IP) and limited opponents to 14 hits and four walks. Yeah, pitching isn't exactly the strength of Dayton's ball club.

Honorable Mentions: RHP Stalin Gerson, RHP Kyle McMyne
