Hamilton named to prestigious list

The folks at BaseballAmerica.com released their Midseason Top 50 Prospects list late last week and one Reds farmhand made the cut. As you may imagine, that one prospect is none other than speedy shortstop, Billy Hamilton, of the Single-A Bakersfield Blaze. The switch-hitting Hamilton ranked as the 27th overall prospect on BA's list.

Hamilton currently sports a slash line of .323/.413/.439 with 28 XBH (18 doubles), 79 RS, 30 RBI and a whopping 104 SB through 82 games played at Bakersfield. He's likely to receive a promotion to either Double-A Pensacola or Triple-A Louisville in the very near future.

Cincinnati placed three players on the 2012 Preseason Top 100 including C Devin Mesoraco (16th), Hamilton (48th), and SS Zack Cozart (75th). Both Mesoraco and Cozart are no longer eligible to appear on the list as the two have already burned their minor league status. Nonetheless, the Reds have no shortage of young talent under their control for years to come.
