Redlegs Sweep Cardinals with 4-2 Win

The Reds (50-38) completed their first series of the second half of the season by sweeping the division rival Cardinals (46-43) with a 4-2 win on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball. The Pirates suffered a 4 to 1 loss against the Brewers in Milwaukee today, allowing the Reds to grasp sole possession of first place in the National League Central.

Homer Bailey got only his second at home win of the season and improved to an 8-6 record and a 3.93 ERA. The key to today's game were two out hits. Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips drove in a pair of RBI's with two outs in the 3rd and the unlikely hero of the game Scott Rolen had the game winning hit with a two out, two RBI single in the bottom of the 8th.

The Good
- It's always a good day in Redlegs Nation when the Reds can sweep the division rival St. Louis Cardinals.
- Homer Bailey pitched a hell of a game. He gave up 9 hits, but only allowed one earned run, walked 2 and struck out two. He also had a hit in 3 ABs. He has a winning record of 8-6
- Aroldis Chapman got his 13th save of the season, striking out all three Cardinals he faced. He continues to be the most dominating pitcher in the game.
- It seems every time Chris Heisey gets to play he shows why he's a fan favorite and should get more playing time. He had 3 hits in 4 at bats and improves his average to .276
- Joey Votto had an incredible day, getting 2 hits, including an RBI double in the third. His average is now .342.

The Bad
- The Reds were 2-5 with RISP, which is good...but a number of singles led to 11 men left on base.
- Zack Cozart continues to leave much to be desired in the lead off spot. He failed to get a hit in 4 ABs.
- Ryan Ludwick and Jay Bruce also failed to get a hit today.

The Notables
- This win gives the Reds sole possession of first place in the NL Central. Moving them to 1 game above the Pirates and the Cardinals to 4.5 games back.
- The strong beginning to the second half led to the 8th sellout of the year, bringing in a crowd of 39,280 to the ballpark.
- Cincy improves to 9-17 all-time on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.
- The Reds host the first of a four game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks (42-46) tomorrow night. Wade Miley (9-5 3.04 ERA) will face Bronson Arroyo (4-5 3.73 ERA). First pitch will be at 7:10 pm.
