Chris Heisey to receive the Heart & Hustle Award on Friday

Chris Heisey will be recognized as the team recipient of the Heart & Hustle Award in pre-game ceremonies tonight. The award is given annually by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association to a player who demonstrates a passion for and best embodies the values, spirit and tradition of the game. Reds Hall of Famer George Foster will bestow the honor to Heisey on the field.

The Reds outfielder will now be in the running, along with the recipients from the 29 other clubs, to win the league-wide award.

As the season draws to a close, fans, alumni and active players will vote to select the final winner from the group of 30 team representatives.

MLBPAA will present the 2012 Heart & Hustle Award at the 13th Annual Legends for Youth Dinner on Nov. 13, 2012, in New York City.

Previous Reds winners of the prestigious award include:

2011 - Miguel Cairo
2010 - Jonny Gomes
2009 - Adam Rosales
2008 - Jerry Hairston Jr.
2007 - Ryan Freel
2006 - Adam Dunn

The 27-year old is in his third season as a member of the Reds. He's appeared in 87 games this year and is currently hitting .267 with four homers, 14 doubles, 30 runs scored  and 21 RBI.

Congrats to Heisey on the accolade and for playing the game the way it is meant to be played!
