Quotes from the D'backs series

The Reds became the first team in the majors to win 80 games this season when they downed Arizona, 6-2, on Wednesday. The win also secured a series sweep and gives the team huge momentum heading into their weekend series in Houston. But first the NL-Central leading club will enjoy a much-deserved and much-needed off day on Thursday.

Here are some notable quotes from the Diamondbacks series to hold you over until Friday:

Monday (Win, 3-2)

+ “We just knew that ball ricocheted too hard to just hit off the wall there. Thank God for instant replay. That was the game winner.”
-Dusty Baker on Bronson Arroyo's homer

+ “Things are kind of working out a little bit. I’ve been feeling good but I’ve been feeling good all year. Early on, I just didn’t get some breaks or some runs in key situations. Lately, I’m getting runs late in the game when you need them to give you a chance to hold the lead and give it to the bullpen. Sometimes things just have to fall into place and they’ve been falling into place the last six weeks.”
-Arroyo after winning his fourth straight start

Tuesday (Win, 5-2)

+ “All I can promise is right now is I’m going to keep going. I want to win at least 20 games. I felt better as the game went on. I was able to gather more strength and continue."
-Johnny Cueto after becoming the first pitcher in the majors to win 17

+“Johnny’s pitching. He’s feeling it every time he’s goes out there. He expects to win. We expect to win. He’s one of the best competitors I’ve ever been a around. This guy competes on every pitch.”

+ “When opportunity comes, you have to step up and do your thing."
-Todd Frazier

Wednesday (Win, 6-2)

+ “We felt in spring training that we were a special team. It’s a good year to be a special team for everybody. Our guys just keep going along, winning ballgames anyway we can win them."

+ “That’s all I got. When I hit it, I was like, ‘please get up.’ I didn’t think it was going to be like that. I did some push-ups last night. Those push-ups work.”
-Brandon Phillips on his 407-foot homer in the eighth

+ “I finally got a good count to hit in. I was sitting on fastball and he threw it. It felt good to hit a home run. It had been a while.”
-Chris Heisey on his first of two homers during the contest

+ “He’s going to go to the Instructional League and the (Arizona) Fall League. He needs a little break. He’s had a terrific year.”
-Walt Jocketty on the possibility of calling up Billy Hamilton
