Reds pegged second in ESPN power rankings

Can anyone cool off the Reds? released its weekly batch of MLB Power Rankings on Monday and the Reds (74-48) managed to move up one spot to no. 2. The Nationals (75-46), owners of the best record in the majors, occupied the top position for the second week in a row.

Cincy was able climb up the rankings on the strength of a 5-2 week against the likes of the Mets and Cubs at home. Their 27-10 record since the All-Star Break is tops in baseball during that span.

If they want to knock the Nats off the perch, they will have to take care of business in Philadelphia (four games) and back home against the Cardinals (three games) this week. The Nationals will host the Braves for a 3-game set before hitting the road to Philly for a 3-game series there as well.

Here's how the rest of the NL Central fared:

#6 Pittsburgh Pirates (67-54) (+1)
#11 St. Louis Cardinals (65-56) (-1)
#24 Milwaukee Brewers (54-66) (-3)
#28 Chicago Cubs (47-74) (--)
#30 Houston Astros (39-83) (--)

If this list included Triple-A clubs too you would probably see at least a few of them above the woeful Astros. Houston is that bad.
