Blaze win first two playoff games against Nuts


The Bakersfield Blaze got off to a successful start in the postseason over the weekend. They came up with two home wins over the Modesto Nuts in a best-of-five series. The series will continue in Modesto on Monday night at 7:05pm local time. Stalin Gerson is expected to start the game for the Blaze.

Bakersfield 5 Modesto 4 (Game 1)
Blaze lead the series 1-0.
-Josh Smith struck out five over six innings, while allowing four runs, three earned. Daniel Wolford (W 1-0, 0.00) got the win with 1.2 perfect innings and a strikeout. Carlos Contreras got the four-out save (1).
-CF Theo Bowe doubled and drove in a run. SS Devin Lohman cranked a solo home run (1). 3B Travis Mattair was 2-4, with a solo homer (1). C Chris Berset recorded a RBI, a run scored, and a steal.

Bakersfield 8 Modesto 5 (Game 2)
Blaze lead the series 2-0.
-Tim Crabbe (W 1-0, 5.05) got the win, but he allowed four runs, three earned, over 6.2 innings. Michael Dennhardt got the save (1) pitching two innings and allowing one earned run.
-The Blaze pounded out 17 hits in the win. SS Devin Lohman had two hits and a RBI. RF Steve Selsky drove in a run. DH Ryan Wright finished 2-4, with a solo homer (1) and three total RBI. C Danny Vicioso launched a two-run bomb (1). 2B Joe Terry drove in a run on two hits, and scored two runs.
