MINOR details 9/3/12: Blaze win season finale in preparation for postseason

Yesterday was the last game of the regular season for Triple-A Louisville, Double-A Pensacola, High-A Bakersfield, and Low-A Dayton. Rookie level Billings will play through Thursday, September 6th. The AZL Reds played their last game last week.

The Bakersfield Blaze made the playoffs and have their first game this weekend. They'll play their first game at home on Saturday, September 8th at 7:05pm local time.

The Billings Mustangs are still fighting for a postseason spot, as they lead their division by one game with three games left.

Bats (51-93), Last place International League West, 38.0 GB
-Tim Gustafson (L 5-7, 5.56) gave up one earned run over four innings. Nick Christiani tossed three scoreless innings.
-3B Mike Costanzo, CF P.J. Phillips, and C Brian Peacock accounted for the Bats’ three hits. 1B Joey Votto went 0-3, with two strikeouts.

Tennessee 8 Pensacola 1
Blue Wahoos (68-70, 34-35), 3rd place Southern League South, 4.0 GB
-Wirfin Obispo (L 5-2, 2.23) allowed just an unearned run in four innings.
-SS Billy Hamilton was 2-4, with a double and a run scored. He finished the season with a record 155 stolen bases. 2B Brodie Greene had three hits, including a double and a RBI.

Bakersfield 7 Rancho Cucamonga 4
Blaze (72-68, 31-39), 4th place California League North, 8.0 GB
-Tim Crabbe (W 5-2, 3.28) struck out five over five innings of one-run baseball. Kyle McMyne pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Michael Dennhardt got a one-out save (1).
-LF Kurtis Muller was 2-3, with a RBI. 1B Dominic D’Anna had two hits, with a solo home run (7) and two RBI. RF Steve Selsky hit a two-run homer (15). 3B Travis Mattair finished 3-3, with a solo shot (19) and two runs.

Dayton 7 West Michigan 3
Dragons (60-78, 30-38), Last place Midwest League Eastern, 11.0 GB
-Ismael Guillon (W 2-0, 2.55) struck out nine in seven innings, allowing three runs, two of them earned. El’Hajj Muhammad and Ryan Kemp each threw a perfect inning.
-2B Taylor Wrenn went 2-5, with a double and two RBI. DH Sean Buckley had two hits including a two-run homer (14) and three total RBI. CF Jefry Sierra was 3-4, with a double, a RBI, and a run.

Billings 5 Helena 2
Mustangs (42-31, 21-14), 1st place Pioneer League North 1.0 up
-Dan Langfield started and gave up two earned runs in four innings. Jose Amezcua (W 3-5, 4.65) had seven strikeouts over four scoreless innings. Jesus Adames picked up the save (1).
-DH Robert Maddox was 2-2, with a RBI. DH Jon Matthews pinch-ran for Maddox and collected a hit and two RBI of his own.

Reds (18-38), Last place Arizona League Central, 16.5 GB
The AZL Reds’ season has come to a close.

Apparently, David Bell is NOT the answer in Louisville, in spite of what Bill Bavasi envisioned.
