On this day in Reds history

No sport boasts a deeper nor richer history than the game of Major League Baseball. So naturally, there lies a ton of historical events and happenings for us to talk about. Our friend Chris Jaffe over at The Hardball Times recently brought to my attention this post filled with some significant baseball events on this day in history. The feature item is about the Reds and makes reference to a bad trade they made 20,000 days ago to none other than the hated St. Louis Cardinals.

Other notable historical Reds events on September 7th include:
+ Greg Vaughn smacks three homers in one game (1999)
+ Johnny Bench notches his 19th and final multi-homer game (1981)
+ Joe Morgan tallies his 1,000th and 2,000th career hits (1972, 1979)
+ A 37-year old Pete Rose hits an inside-the-park- homer (1978)

If you're a baseball history nerd like myself, it's worth the time to follow this link on over to Jaffe's piece and check out all the baseball events from this day, not just Reds-related.
