Reds quotes from San Francisco

The Reds won both games in San Francisco and now enjoy a 2-0 lead in the NLDS as the series turns to Great American Ball Park. The NL Central Champs will have three games at the friendly confines of home to secure a win and thus, punch their ticket to the NLCS.

Here are some quotes from Games One and Two to hold you over until Tuesday:

Game One:

+ “First of all, [Sam] LeCure was outstanding. But for [Mat] Latos to come in and go four innings on three days rest after he had already thrown a bullpen. It was 20 pitches, mostly change-ups, but still it was a bullpen. That was remarkable. And it was absolutely what we needed. I could not be prouder of Mat. That’s a big step-up performance.”

- Pitching coach Bryan Price on Mat Latos' unexpected outing

+ “When Johnny [Cueto] went down I was like, gosh, oh no, we’re done,” Phillips said. “Why? Why? And when we were out there talking and we were like, let’s win this for Johnny."

- Brandon Phillips after going 3-5 with a homer and three RBI

+ "The pitch to [Jay] Bruce wasn't too terrible but the hanging breaking ball to Phillips is just something that you don't want to happen in a big-game situation like this."

- Giants starter Matt Cain on allowing homers to both Bruce and Phillips

+ "We were just fortunate to win that game, like the way we did tonight, and you got to give big props to Latos. Here is a guy sitting back, relaxed, thinking he was going to pitch next week at home and now all of the sudden, boom, this is his first playoff game. It was a great feat by him."

- Dusty Baker on Latos

+ "It feels good, shows the fans that we will be playing more games in Cincinnati. All you can do is win for the city and for your teammates. And we all have the same mission: to get the ring. And I want to keep on doing that until I get the ring."

- Phillips

+ "I feel really proud about my team. I feel proud about the pitchers. They all came in and did their job, not just them, the hitters came in and they backed me up tonight."

- Johnny Cueto, who left the game after only eight pitches due to back spasms

Game Two:

+ “A no-hitter in this environment is almost impossible to do. It’s definitely something you’re not thinking about. A win for the ball club is the pinnacle. It’s Nirvana. There’s nothing else you think about. If something else crazy happens, it’s icing on the cake."

- Bronson Arroyo, who retired the first 14 batters he faced en route to a 7-inning shutout performance

+ “We had a little lull after we clinched. I don’t know why. We were winning games on pitching and defense. It’s good to see the bats come alive from top to bottom really.”

- Ryan Hanigan after the club scored nine runs in the contest

+ "Obviously the most important [thing] was to get the first two wins. This home field is interesting. Coming into this place, against this team, against this pitching, it's tough. We handled it well. Our pitching did an unbelievable job. You couldn't do any better than to go home up 2-0."

- Bruce, who ripped a 2-run double during the game

+ "Now we still have to stay focused. There still have been four teams to come back from a 2-0 deficit in this series. We have to stay focused, go home, get some rest tomorrow because it's going to be a late flight. We'll get back after it on Tuesday."

- Ludwick, who was 2-3 with a homer and two runs scored
