Top 12 games of the Reds season: No. 11

Today marks day two of the Top 12 Games of the Reds Season series. The campaign may have ended abruptly, and in somber fashion, but there is still plenty to smile about when thinking about the past six months or so. We will be counting down the greatest contests from the year each day until we reach the number one spot.

But for now, here is No. 11 on the list:

June 8, 2012

Reds 6, Tigers 5 (F/10)

+ The Reds win a wild one at Great American Ball Park thanks to some unlikely sources. With the score tied at five in the bottom of the tenth, Miguel Cairo picks a great time to deliver his first triple of the season. One out later, Wilson Valdez comes to the dish with intentions of being the hero. With Cairo leading off third, Valdez decides to improvise and lays down a squeeze bunt that scores Cairo thanks to a head-first slide at home.

"He was looking at me and I was like, 'Here we go,'" Cairo said afterward. "I was expecting it. I know he likes to do it. It was a perfect bunt."

The play gives Cincinnati a walk-off victory in front of a soldout hometown crowd of 38,563. It becomes the first game-ending bunt in franchise history since Jeff Reed accomplished the feat on June 26, 1990.

Not to be forgotten is the offensive outburst Joey Votto displays during the Friday night affair. The Canadian native tallies three hits including a homer and a double while driving in three runs.
