A collection of Reds news and notes for the weekend

With Thanksgiving and Black Friday now in the rear view mirror, we inch a little bit closer to the beginning of baseball season. Although there still remains many wintry days between now and then, it never hurts to bask in a little Reds-related news and notes. So, grab you a plate of leftover turkey, pumpkin pie, or whatever else your heart so desires, and read up some interesting Reds stuff.

+ On Tuesday, six players were added to the 40-man roster to keep them from being plucked away by another team in the Rule 5 Draft. Those players included RHP Daniel Corcino, RHP Carlos Contreras, RHP Josh Ravin, OF Yorman Rodriguez, RHP Curtis Partch, and LHP Is
mael Guillon. Here's the full story.

+ Did Cincinnati make a mistake by trading away Yasmani Grandal instead of Devin Mesoraco last offseason? One writer of the Bleacher Report seems to think so.

+ Shane Victorino and Austin Kearns are among five players who this writer thinks could help solve the Reds' offensive woes. The others include a hometown product and another former player.

+ This one isn't Reds-related per say, but it is baseball related. Dayn Perry of CBS Sports compiled an All-Thanksgiving team comprised of the best player names in history. It's worth a look, I promise.

+ Former Reds pitcher Frank Pastore was critically injured in a motorcycle crash on Monday. Here's the story.

+ Scott Rolen may not be retiring after all. The veteran third basemen reportedly told the club that he may play in 2013, but isn't ready to make a decision quite yet. This according to a tweet from ESPN's Jayson Stark.

+ Ryan Madson has yet to throw a pitch in an actual game for the Reds after blowing out his elbow prior to last season. However, the team still wants him back. Jack Moore of CBS Sports recently featured Madson in a free agent preview capsule. Will the Reds land his services again?

+ The Reds have signed utility player Emmanuel Burriss to a minor league contract, according to Matt Eddy of Baseball America. The 27-year old batted .213/.370/.221 in 150 trips to the plate last year. Eddy also reports that they have signed RHP Jeff Stevens and C Nevin Ashley as well.

+ Todd Frazier's stellar rookie campaign has pretty much allowed him to lock up a spot in the lineup for 2013, writes AJ Mass of ESPN.

+ Are you interested in seeing the latest odds from Vegas as to who will win the 2013 World Series? If so, I have got you covered. Spoiler: The Reds are tied for the seventh-best odds.

+ We are now officially under two weeks away from Redsfest 2012! The two-day event is set to get underway on Friday, Dec. 7 at 3:00 PM ET. Friday's event will run until 10:30 PM ET and Saturday's will run from 11:00 AM ET to 6:30 PM ET. It should be a good time for all.
