Midweek Reds links, news, and notes

We are beginning to approach a few major offseason milestones soon. The first of which will come next Monday (Dec. 3) when the Major League Baseball world converges on Nashville for the Winter Meetings. That event will run through Thursday, which leads up to the Rule 5 Draft. The following day marks the beginning of the greatest fanfest in all of sports -- Redsfest. The two-day extravaganza is slated to take place in the Duke Energy Convention Center in downtown Cincinnati.

Here's some links, news, and notes to help keep you occupied until then.

+ The biggest news this week is the signing of free agent closer Jonathan Broxton to a multi-year deal. Check out our coverage of the story by following this link.

+ Rumor has it that this deal likely means Aroldis Chapman is destined for the starting rotation. Rumor also has it that he will be on an innings limit, although it's unknown what that will be at this point.

+ The decision to convert Chapman from the bullpen to the rotation comes with big risks and big rewards, says CBS Sports' Matt Snyder.

+ Dan Szymborski of Baseball Think Factory recently took the time to outline the "Top 15 Contracts in Baseball". Reds ace Johnny Cueto ranked sixth among his rankings. See how Szymborski compiled his list by visting this link.

+ Grantland's Jonah Keri built a list of 50 players who he believed held the most trade value in the current MLB landscape, and a handful of Reds made the grade. Jay Bruce (No. 35), Johnny Cueto (No. 28), and Aroldis Chapman (No. 17) landed a spot in the rankings while utilityman Todd Frazier earned an Honorable Mention. See the rest of the list by clicking here.

+ It would appear as though the Ryan Madson era in Cincinnati is officially no more. On Tuesday, ESPN reported that he and the Los Angeles Angels had agreed to terms on a one-year deal, pending a physical exam. The Reds inked the right-hander to a free agent deal last January, but never benefited from his services because of a season-ending elbow injury he suffered in spring training.

+ Cincinnati's young talent continues to get better with age, writes Josh Ramsey of the Bleacher Report. And the future still looks very bright.

+ One writer provides us with "7 Reasons the Reds Will be Tough to Beat in 2013". Yeah, a healthy Joey Votto is one of them.

+ Free agent Ryan Ludwick is drawing the attention of several clubs this winter on the strength of a bounceback season. Might the Detroit Tigers be interested in his services? LINK.

+ Redsfest 2012 is now just a mere eight days away!
