2013 Reds predictions: Top Newcomer

We're past halfway in our eight-part series and the second half begins with a very important category. After every season, teams look for ways to improve their teams whether they finished in first or last place. By signing or trading for new players, a winning organization especially hopes they have found the final piece to the proverbial puzzle. The Reds didn't make a ton of moves, but they did make one of the most significant moves in baseball which leads us to our next prediction. The Redlegs Review staff got together and deliberated and the choice was clear.

Our pick for the 2013 Reds Top Newcomer:

@RedlegsWriter: Choo received every single vote here which should come as no surprise. Cincinnati made a few other moves to help shore up the bench and add some pitching depth, but none should be more impactful than adding Choo to the roster in a trade that sent Drew Stubbs to Cleveland and Didi Gregorius to Arizona. You've seen the numbers for months now about how bad the Reds were in the leadoff spot last year. They were practically the worst team in baseball in that aspect. Now they add a guy whose .389 OBP from the leadoff spot last season was the third highest in the Majors. It should also help stabilize the lineup, preventing players from having to be shuffled around to make things work. As long as everyone stays healthy, this will be one of the most powerful lineups in baseball and it all, literally, starts with Choo.

And in case you want to look back on a prior post, or just want to look ahead...
