Reds finalize Opening Day roster

The Reds needed to trim the roster size down to 25 players by Monday. On Sunday, they did so by effectively putting the final touches on the Opening Day roster.

Honestly, there really wasn't much wiggle room in the makeup of the team. Of the 25 spots, 22 were pretty much already locked down. However, the final bench spot and the last two bullpen spots were thought to be up for grabs between several players.

Those who survived the final round of cuts included INF Cesar Izturis, RHP J.J. Hoover, RHP Alfredo Simon and LHP Manny Parra.

Among the players cut included RHP Logan Ondrusek, RHP Jose Arredondo, INF Emmanuel Burriss, C Corky Miller, OF Denis Phipps, OF Derrick Robinson, and UTL Jason Donald. Ondrusek was optioned to Double-A Pensacoloa, Arredondo to Triple-A Louisville, and Donald was designated for assignment.

Injured RHP Nick Masset was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to 3/22.

Here is a look at the Reds' 2013 Opening Day roster...

Catchers
Devin Mesoraco
Ryan Hanigan

Infielders
Zack Cozart
Brandon Phillips
Joey Votto
Todd Frazier
Cesar Izturis

Outfielders

Let the debate begin about who got snubbed and who didn't. Personally, I'm a little surprised Arredondo didn't make the grade, but it is what it is. I'm sure we will see him up with the Reds at some point in 2013.
