Thursday's mixed bag of news and notes

Well, Cincinnati's road trip to St. Louis didn't go so well. After taking game one of the series by scoring nine runs in the final inning, the Reds proceeded to get outscored, 15-1, over the next two games of the series.

I don't know what it is, but Busch Stadium has been a Bermuda Triangle of sorts for the Reds in the past decade. This last series did nothing to help erase that trend.

But as any baseball fan knows, there is always tomorrow, and tomorrow (Friday) begins a fresh series in Pittsburgh against the Pirates. A trio of games versus the Buccos may be exactly what Cincy needs to get back on track.

Until then, enjoy a mixed bag of news and notes...

+ Dusty Baker wasted no time in plugging Logan Ondrusek into a game. Ondrusek made his season debut with the Reds on Wednesday just hours after being recalled from Double-A Pensacola to fill the void left by Sean Marshall, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list due to shoulder tendinitis. Ondrusek essentially struck out the side, but not before he allowed one hit, one run, and one walk.

+ Despite only scoring one run in its past two games, Cincinnati still ranks third in the National League in runs scored (52).

+ Todd Frazier ranks second in the league in runs batted in (10). He also made a terrific defensive play from the hot corner yesterday.

+ C. Trent Rosecrans provides the answers to five frequently asked questions by Reds fans so far in the following post. Rosecrans also lays out a plethora of interesting links to other baseball-related stories in his daily Blog Above Replacement entry.

+ ESPN The Magazine recently caught up with fan favorite Todd Frazier for a Q&A session. The transcript of that converstation can be read here.

+ Don't forget! The first bobblehead giveaway of the season will take place next Saturday (April 20) when the Reds host the Marlins. The first 30,000 fans through the gates will receive a free Brandon Phillips bobblehead. Be there or be square. The action gets underway at 1:10 p.m.

+ What's going on with the Cubs? You know, aside from their futility on the baseball field. Someone apparently delivered a goat's head to team owner Tom Ricketts on Wednesday. It's said to be in reference to the curse supposedly hovering over the club since the 1950s. Then, hours later, Cubs prospect Jorge Soler was ejected from a minor league game after reportedly charging at the opposing dugout wielding a bat. No one was injured as Soler's teammates restrained him before he actually made it to the other dugout. Yikes.

+ A Mariners fan caught a foul ball in his beer last night, and then immediately proceeded to chug the contents of the cup. See the video here.

+ Curious to know what the updated MLB standings look like for every division? BOOM.
