The Reds did well to avoid being swept by the Washington Nationals Sunday by taking game four of the series, 5-2.
Rookie southpaw Tony Cingrani picked up his second career win in only his third career start while Aroldis Chapman notched his fifth save of the campaign. So, at least the Reds can head into Monday night with some sort of momentum against St. Louis.
But during the game on Sunday, an odd spectacle occurred when Nationals reliever Henry Rodriguez nearly got hit by the ball from his own pitch! The moment came in the top of the eighth inning after Rodriguez uncorked a wild one to Corky Miller.
As you can see, the ball gets past the catcher, ricochets off the backstop behind the plate, and then nearly strikes Rodriguez in the head as it flies back toward the pitcher's mound. No harm, no foul, but it's something I've never seen before and maybe you hadn't either.
