Wednesday's mixed bag of Reds notes

The Redlegs look to even up the series Wednesday when they host the Los Angeles Angels for game two of a three-game series.

Southpaw C.J. Wilson gets the ball for the Halos opposite of Mat Latos. First pitched is slated to be uncorked under the lights at approximately 7:10 PM.

Until then, enjoy a fresh batch of Reds news and notes...

+ Latos has a track record of starting slow out of the gates. He is just 2-8 with a 5.73 ERA in 13 career starts in April. Let's hope he can buck that trend this evening at GABP.

+ Additionally, Latos has never faced the Angels in his career.

+ In case you missed it, Ryan Ludwick is headed to the 15-day disabled list after an MRI revealed torn cartilage in his dislocated shoulder. Ludwick suffered the injury in the third inning of Monday's opener when sliding into third base. Cincinnati is supposed to announce Ludwick's roster replacement at some point before tonight's game.

+ I know it's only been one game, but the Reds rank dead last in the league in team batting average at the moment (.071). They collected just three hits during Monday's 13-inning affair. Only one of those hits came after the third inning.

+ Perhaps changes made to their bats have something to do with their batting woes? Louisville Slugger made two alterations to their iconic lumber just in time for Opening Day. See what those are here.

+ Wednesday will mark the first time this season that all 30 MLB teams are in action. And because of the Houston Astros' move to the American League, both leagues now have an odd number of teams (15), which means Interleague play has become a scheduling necessity year-round.

+ On Monday, the Reds boasted an Opening Day payroll in excess of $100 million for the first time in franchise history. See how their payroll stacked up against the rest of Major League Baseball by following this link to the USA TODAY report.

+ Here is a Bleacher Report slideshow that lists 10 predictions for the 2013 season. Each one of them is centered around the Reds.

+ A guy named Josh Hamilton is spending a few days in Cincinnati this week as his Angels battle the Reds. You may remember Hamilton playing for the Reds back in 2007 as a promising rookie who overcame drug and addiction problems to make it to the big show. You probably also remember the team trading him the following offseason to the Texas Rangers. Fans have called it one of the worst trades in franchise history. And this Yahoo! writer believes it is, too.

+ Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez gifted former teammate John Jaso a shiny Rolex watch before the M's played the Oakland A's Monday night. Why? Well, King Felix just wanted to say thanks to Jaso for catching his perfect game last August.

+ The Reds and Angels conclude their series on Thursday in a matinee affair. First pitch is set for 12:35 PM and will feature two veterans: LA's Joe Blanton against Bronson Arroyo.
