Ranking the least valuable players through two months of the MLB regular season


Yesterday, we brought you a list of the most valuable players through the first two months of the regular season. These rankings were assembled based exclusively off the Wins Above Replacement data found on Baseball Reference. You can take a look back on the end result by clicking here.

Today, I thought it would be fitting to present you with a collection of the least valuable players up onto this point in the season. These players have performed well under par so far in 2013 and look to turn things around sooner rather than later. However, as of now they currently own the dubious title of being some of the least valuable players in the entire league.

1) Ryan Vogelsong - RHP - Giants
WAR: -1.7
+ Has surrendered 62 hits and 44 runs in 46.1 IP (7.19 ERA).

2) Wily Peralta - RHP - Brewers
WAR: -1.6
+ Sporting a gaudy 6.73 ERA and 1.73 WHIP through 11 starts.

T-3) Jeff Keppinger - UTL - White Sox
WAR: -1.5
+ Sporting an OBP of just .230 in 179 at-bats to go with .223 average.

T-3) Clayton Richard - LHP - Padres
WAR: -1.5
+ Has tallied an 0-5 record and has more walks (18) than strikeouts (16).

5) Philip Humber - RHP - Free Agent
WAR: -1.4
+ Began the year 0-8 with a 9.59 ERA before getting released by Astros.

T-6) Rickie Weeks - 2B - Brewers
WAR: -1.3
+ Hitting a dismal .183 with 59 strikeouts in 175 at-bats.

T-6) Vance Worley - RHP - Phillies
WAR: -1.3
+ Has allowed a whopping 82 hits in 48.2 IP.

T-8) Victor Martinez - C - Indians
WAR: -1.1
+ Hitting at a clip of .228 with a .306 slugging percentage.

T-8) Roy Halladay - RHP - Phillies
WAR: -1.1
+ Sported an 8.65 ERA in seven starts before landing on 60-day disabled list.

T-8) Mitchell Boggs - RHP - Cardinals
WAR: -1.1
+ Is 0-3 with three blown saves and an unsightly 11.05 ERA.

T-8) Adam Dunn - DH - White Sox
WAR: -1.1
+ Ranks third in strikeouts (69) and is hitting a measly .153.

T-8) B.J. Upton - OF - Braves
WAR: -1.1
+ Has struck out 62 times in 158 at-bats to go with horrific .146 average.
