Joey Votto pulled off a defensive gem during Saturday's 4-2 win over the rival Cardinals that even teammate and multiple Gold Glove winner Brandon Phillips could be proud of.
The play came in the top of the seventh inning when St. Louis hitter Matt Carpenter bounced a groundball down to Votto at first base.
Votto charged, scooped, and then proceeded to flip the ball behind his back to Mat Latos, who came charging over from his pitcher's spot to cover first base. Latos snagged the ball with his bare hand and stepped on the bag just in time to record the out.
That was a thing of beauty, folks.
