Reds creep up one spot in latest power rankings

The folks over at ESPN.com released its weekly batch of Major League Baseball Power Rankings on Monday. Although the Boston Red Sox claimed the top spot, three teams from the National League Central Division sat among the top seven, including the Reds.

Cincinnati used the strength of a 4-2 homestand this past week to creep up one spot to No. 7 in the updated rankings. Meanwhile, the Pirates and Cardinals each fell one spot to second and third, respectively.

The Reds began last week on a high note by taking the first three games from the reigning World Series champion Giants before getting rained out on Thursday. However, they failed to carry over the positive momentum into the weekend series, dropping two out of three at home against the Mariners.

Dusty Baker's bunch will hit the road for a three-game set in Milwaukee and a four-game series in Atlanta before taking a few days off for the All-Star Break next week.

At 50-38, the Reds continue to hold a comfortable lead for the last Wild Card spot, but remain 3.5 games back of first place in the division.
