Reds quotes from Thursday's series victory over Cardinals

After suffering a heart-breaking defeat in 16 innings on Wednesday, the Reds bounced back to win both the game, 6-2, and the series on Thursday behind a barrage of home runs and a gutsy performance from rookie Tony Cingrani.

The huge win pulled the Reds within 3.0 games of the front-running Pirates for the division lead. And it pulled the Reds even closer to the Cardinals for the top Wild Card spot at just 1.5 games.

Here are some quotes from the players after the game:

“(I) tried to get a little bit in Lance Lynn’s head there. You know, it worked, I guess. We hit a bunch of home runs off of him — that’s good.”
- Cingrani on his bunt single in the bottom of the second inning

“Once they went 0-1, I thought if they got two strikes, I should probably just go to second. If I get thrown out, (Shin-Soo) Choo leads off the (next) inning. If I’m safe — I guess I scored a run.”
- Cingrani on stealing second base with two outs in the bottom of the second

“Love him to death, love his energy, love his poise out there. He gave us five strong innings. I’m very happy with what he did and now he’s healthy and we’ll make a big run, hopefully.”
- Todd Frazier on Cingrani's performance

"That's the biggest part of what we needed to do: We needed to win."

- Frazier, who was 3-for-4 with two home runs

"That was a big series right there. That game last night still hurts, but that's OK. We've got a resilient team. I don't think anybody slept last night."
- Dusty Baker on the magnitude of the series

Cincinnati looks to keep the momentum going Friday night as it welcomes the red-hot Los Angeles Dodgers to Great American Ball Park for a three-game series.
