Video: Billy Hamilton steals base on first pitch of major league debut

Billy Hamilton wasted no time to record his first stolen base in the big leagues.

Hamilton entered the game as a pinch-runner in the bottom of the seventh inning after Ryan Ludwick banged a single into center field. The speedster's major league debut drew a large ovation from the home crowd as he began to take his lead off of first.

Cardinals reliever Seth Maness was clearly bothered by Hamilton's mere presence as he threw over three times before finally delivering a pitch to the plate. It was on that very first pitch that Hamilton decided to test the arm of one of the best defensive catchers in the majors: Yadier Molina. In this battle, the rookie emerged victorious.

Hamilton got a good jump and managed to slide in safely under the tag of second basemen Kolton Wong. Two pitchers later, Todd Frazier hooked a ball down the left field line to plate Hamilton, giving the Reds a 1-0 lead, and also giving Hamilton his first run scored of his career.
