It wasn't pretty and it wasn't easy, but the Reds managed to keep pace with both the Pirates and Cardinals with a a walk-off win against the New York Mets on Monday.
Shin-Soo Choo's game-winning single proved to be the difference as it brought home Devin Mesoraco from third base to give Dusty Baker's crew a 3-2 victory.
The victory, coupled with Washington's loss to the Cardinals, meant the Reds clinched a spot in the postseason for the second straight season. The last time the Reds were able to do that was in 1975-76 with the the Big Red Machine. Both of those clubs went on to win the World Series.
With just five games left, the Reds are still tied with the Pirates for the top Wild Card spot, and remain a full two games back of St. Louis for first place.
