Walt Jocketty: Dusty Baker will return

Following Tuesday's season-ending loss to the Pirates in the Wild Card game, a large contingent of Reds fans could be seen and heard via social media, radio, and word-of-mouth alike calling for the firing of manager Dusty Baker.

However, according to general manager Walt Jocketty, that isn't happenng.

"He's signed for another year," said Jocketty to Cincinnati Enquirer's John Fay.

Baker, 64, signed a two-year extension after last season. After failing to reach the playoffs in his first two seasons at the helm, he has led the Reds to the playoffs in three of the last four years, including division titles in 2010 and 2012.. But they’ve been eliminated in the first round of the postseason each year.

Fay notes that although Jocketty seems adamant that Baker will return, the ultimate decision will be in the hands of Reds majority owner and chief executive officer Bob Castellini.

In six seasons as Cincinnati's manager, Baker has compiled a record of 509-463 (.524), but is just 2-7 in three playoff appearances.
