The Reds made a qualifying contract offer to free agent outfielder Shin-Soo Choo on Monday.
Choo now has seven days to accept or reject the club's offer of one-year and $14.1 million. If Choo declines, and in all likelihood he will, the South Korean native can still re-sign with the Reds down the road.
Alternatively, the Reds did not tender qualifying offers to free agents Bronson Arroyo, Zach Duke, Cesar Izturis, Nick Masset, or Manny Parra. Like Choo, these players can still re-sign with the Reds at any time.
The silver lining with Choo is that even if he rejects the offer and signs with another team, Cincinnati will receive a pick in the compensatory round of the 2014 MLB Draft, which will come between the end of the first round and the beginning of the second.
