The voting has begun for the Greatness in Baseball Yearly Awards (GIBBY) and five Reds players have been nominated in seven different categories. Additionally, Dusty Baker and Walt Jocketty are up for "Best Manager" and "Top Executive", respectively.
What are the GIBBYs, you may ask? Well, they are supposedly the ultimate honors of the industry's awards season, based on votes comprised by media, front-office personnel, MLB alumni, fans at MLB.com, and the Society for American Baseball Research.
Joey Votto is up for a couple of these awards including "Best Hitter" and "Top Play." Votto was nominated for the heads-up play he made to help preserve Homer Bailey's no-hitter.
Speaking of Bailey, the right-hander earned a nomination for "Best Pitching Performance" for his no-hitter on July 2 against the Giants.
Phillips is nominated for three categories, as well. Fresh off winning his fourth career Gold Glove, Phillips is nominated for "Best Defensive Player," and "Top Play," with the play being the spectacular double play he notched while touching second base with his knee and throwing to first base all in one motion.
Finally, Jay Bruce earned some recognition for his game-ending hit in April, and is up for the "Best Walk-Off Hit" category.
Fans can vote through Dec. 1.
