Audio: Homer Bailey nonchalantly shrugs off trade rumors

Homer Bailey's name has been tossed around a lot lately and the bulk of the headlines have something to do with the Reds potentially looking to trade him.

While some players may get annoyed or worried about such rumblings, Bailey seems to be far from it. In fact, the right-hander doesn't appear to be letting the rumors bother him at all.

The 28-year-old went on the air with MLB Network Radio Tuesday afternoon and spewed the following quote when asked about it:

“Trade rumors and stuff like that, let’s be honest, how many times are they actually right, No. 1, and No. 2, it’s January, come on,” Bailey said. “If it were the trade deadline or something, then it might be important. Realistically, right now it doesn’t matter, all I can do is get ready for the season.”

I think Bailey's approach to the situation is exactly what you would want out of a player. He seems to be taking it in stride and realizes that speculation is more or less something he cannot control.

But I do think it's somewhat noteworthy how nonchalant the Texan sounds in the interview. It's been reported multiple times before that Bailey hasn't shown much interest in signing a contract extension with the Reds. So perhaps Bailey is already mentally preparing himself for parting ways with Cincinnati within the next year at the most. Remember, he is slated to garner a huge contract at the end of 2014 when he becomes a free agent, and the Reds have reiterated that they don't have much cash to work with to keep around.

Here is the entire four-minute audio clip of Bailey's interview if interested.
