An updated list of Reds non-roster invitees for spring camp

With spring training set to begin in under two weeks, hundreds of players are preparing to fight for their professional baseball lives, as they enter the battlefield as dreaded non-roster invitees.

The Reds have no shortage of these kind of players this year, with 19 baseball-loving souls vying for a shot to make the big league roster, fully aware that the odds are slim to none.

With this in mind, here is the list of the 19 non-roster invitees hoping to turn heads this spring with the Redlegs:

RHP Trevor Bell
OF Roger Bernadina
OF Jason Bourgeois
RHP Tim Crabbe
INF Argenis Diaz
RHP Jose Diaz
LHP Jeff Francis
RHP Drew Hayes
LHP Lee Hyde
RHP Michael Lorenzen
C Corky Miller
INF Rey Navarro
OF Kristopher Negron
INF Chris Nelson
C Rossmel Perez
C Max Ramirez
INF Ramon Santiago
RHP Robert Stephenson
RHP Chien-Ming Wang

There could be a few more names added to this list before the Reds report to Goodyear, but this is probably a good snapshot of the underdogs in camp. For what it's worth, Santiago probably boasts the best chance out of this group to make the Opening Day roster, given the club's need for a backup shortstop. Although unlikely, I could see Bourgeois or Bernadina impressing enough to win a roster spot out of spring too, providing added insurance for Billy Hamilton in center field. Barring injury, it's a certainty that veterans Miller, Wang, and Francis will begin the season at Triple-A Louisville. Stephenson, the organization's top prospect, will begin the year in the minors as well, either in Pensacola or Louisville.
