Buster Olney: Reds have 8th-toughest early season schedule

ESPN's Buster Olney went through the trouble of breaking down the early season schedule for every team in the National League on Wednesday.

By Olney's tabulations, the Reds will sport the league's 8th-toughest schedule through the first quarter of the season. Although 22 of their first 40 games are at home, another 21 of them come against teams with records of .500 or better in 2013.

Perhaps the most notable schedule observation is that they play 13 games against the Pirates and Cardinals by April 24. This includes a three-game series against St. Louis to begin the regular season.

In case you were wondering, the Cubs are said to have the toughest schedule lying ahead. A whopping 31 of their first 40 games comes against clubs who notched winning records a season ago.
