Monday's edition of Reds news and notes

Joey Votto advanced to the next round in MLB's #FaceofMLB contest. The Canadian edged out Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt by the thinnest of margins, 50.3 percent to 49.7 percent, to keep the quest of defending his title alive. He will face either Philly's Chase Utley or Seattle's Felix Hernandez in Round 3.

Hey, remember that ESPN feature piece about Aroldis Chapman I told you about last week? Well, apparently its starting to make the rounds around the internet, and it prompted David Brown of Big League Stew to highlight the ten best details of the piece. One of my favorites is the fact that Chapman bought his home because it reminded him of the one depicted in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

All kidding aside, there were a few things in the article that were somewhat troubling, such as Chapman being seemingly discontent with his life and baseball. However, new skipper Bryan Price isn't worried, writes John Fay.

Should Reds fans be nervous about this year's team? It's a question posed by Megan Stamper in her most recent blurb for

Did Arizona make a mistake signing Bronson Arroyo to a pricey contract? Keith Law of ESPN Insider certainly believes so. Do you?

A total of 12 Reds cracked ESPN's list of top 300 fantasy baseball players for 2014. Somewhat surprisingly, Mike Leake was not among the crowd.

The mayor of Goodyear, Ariz. is excited that spring training is nearly here. His guest column published Sunday on serves as proof.

A radio broadcast schedule of Cincy's 31 exhibition games. Apparently, all but two split-squad contests will be aired over the radio by some station or another.

Vinny Gala of Rant Sports presents a slideshow of five Reds players who are sure to shine this spring training. Spoiler alert: Votto is among the five.

Pitchers and catchers have until Friday to report to spring training. Not surprisingly, it appears as though fan favorite Sam LeCure has already arrived in Goodyear. And it looks like Sam is taking his facial hair to another level in 2014.
