Wednesday evening Reds news and notes


Wednesday was a bit of a slow day in regards to Reds news. The unofficial holiday known as National Signing Day for aspiring college athletes undoubtedly overshadowed the sports world today. Despite the barrage of college football signings, there were some notable Reds nuggets to pick through, and the fruits of the labor have been compiled in this post for you to enjoy.

+ In case you missed it, Joey Votto went on the air (again) with local sports talk show host Lance McAlister Tuesday night for a lengthy interview. He opened up on several topics and fielded multiple questions from fans who called into the show, too. As always, it was an insightful chat. Click here to listen to the interview.

+ The equipment truck is packed up and ready to go to spring training. Clubhouse manager Rick Stowe supervised the loading of the semi on Tuesday and expects the truck to leave on Thursday. It will take three days to arrive to Cincinnati's temporary home in Goodyear, Arizona.

+ Are you searching for a place to get married this summer? Look no further than Great American Ball Park on Friday, Aug. 22. On this day, the Reds are planning to host their second annual mass wedding and are inviting any lovely couples to book their reservation.

+ It appears the sweepstakes for Bronson Arroyo could be down to three. Well, at least according to Bob Nightengale of the USA Today.
+ MLB.com youth correspondent Maggie Zahneis writes about how the Reds Caravan brings players and fans together. There's quotes from Billy Hamilton, Jeff Brantley, and Tom Browning included her post. Spoiler alert: Browning has high expectations for the team this year.

+ Are you among those looking forward to the Jason Aldean concert at GABP? If you haven't already heard, Aldean's concert date has been slated for Saturday, July 19. You can learn more details about this bash on the banks of the Ohio River by reading this press release.

+ According to this projection model by Baseball Prospectus, the Reds are predicted to go 83-79 in 2014, good enough for second place in the division, but just shy of earning a Wild Card spot.

+ Howard Bender of Fangraphs.com says fantasy baseball owners should "pump the brakes" on Hamilton with regards to drafting him too early.

+ Lastly, the Reds announced via Twitter that Ken Griffey Jr. will be the bobblehead given away for the Saturday, June 21 affair against the Blue Jays. This is definitely one I'd like to get my hands on.
